With a history on the site reaching back as far as 1248, Carrickfergus Town Hall, built in 1779, has long stood as a witness to the town’s changing fortunes. Over the centuries, it has remained a central landmark in the life and identity of Carrickfergus.
More recently, its presence has dimmed, no longer fulfilling the role it once did. By restoring the Town Hall’s historic fabric while modernising its facilities, the scheme aims to re-establish the building as a cultural anchor and Centre for the Arts, reconnecting the Town Hall with the town and its people.
At the heart of the Town Hall regeneration is the refurbished courtyard with its new covered canopy. This sheltered space will be perfect for markets, events and community gatherings that people can enjoy whatever the weather, all year round.
It has been designed to show off the old stone walls and compliment the historic brickwork of the Civic Centre. Light and welcoming by day, softly lit at night, it will be a landmark that encourages people to spend more time here, enhancing and celebrating the site’s underused history and heritage.
We are always keen to hear from you. If you have any questions about the project, get in touch.
