North Gate Pocket Park

The pocket park at North Gate will transform a neglected area into a vibrant public space. Positioned on the walking route from the train station to the Castle, it will provide a much-needed pause point for tours and a pleasant spot for locals, helping to bring new energy and investment into North Street.

  • Revitalise North Street by turning a vacant and derelict area into a welcoming public space.
  • Create a key pause point along the Town Walls walking route for visitors and locals alike.
  • Encourage private investment by improving the public realm and signalling renewal.
  • Celebrate heritage by respecting the historic significance of North Gate and the Town Walls.
  • Ensure safety and sustainability with high-quality materials, well-planned lighting, and careful design to discourage antisocial behaviour.
  • Protect archaeology and heritage assets through assessment, monitoring, and consultation with HED before and during works.

Reversing Dereliction

North Gate Square will become a bright, welcoming park with seats, planting and space to relax. Right on the main walking route to the Town Centre from the train, and along the Town Walls route, it will be a great spot for lunch breaks, walking tours or simply taking in the view. By making the area attractive again, it will help bring new life and investment to North Street.

We are always keen to hear from you. If you have any questions about the project, get in touch.
